Kruzie came home from that vacation determined to build his own Wild West town and he did just that. The town is right here in Kyle at 1205 Roland Lane! Larry has spent the last six years working on Texas Old Town with the help of his family. His son in law works full time at Texas Old Town. Larry’s son and wife also work here. Even his 88-year old father in law, Jim Nowland with his wife Ovena watch the kids while Larry and his family take care of the business. When I asked Larry what his wife thought about all of this he just grinned, “she shakes her head and smiles but you know, we’ve been married 39 years…” Larry and his wife and many of their family members live right here at Texas Old Town. Larry Kruzie built brick sidewalks using 31,000 bricks that lead from the Reception Hall to the Covered Pavilion to the Outdoor Stage and Dance Floor to the Bridal Party Suite. You can’t help but be transported back to the early days of settlers and pioneers when walking along these paths. Larry and his family moved logs cut in the Smithville area to Kyle where he cut and shaped them in his own sawmill. The rough-hewn logs give the place much of its charm while the inviting smell of barbeque lingers in the air. Since opening, Texas Old Town has been the setting for more than 80 weddings! Quinceañeras, Birthdays, and Company gatherings have all met here. Lance Armstrong, along with comedian Robin Williams was here for the Live Strong gathering (850 people!) in October of last year. On the 2nd Friday of each month from 6.00 pm – 11pm, the public is invited to enjoy Texas Old Town. You can call for reservations at 512-396-1800 or 512-554-2741. The evening will include an all you can eat Bar-B-que supper, Western stage show, Live C/W dance with the Texas Old Town Wranglers, a Petting corral, Archery range, Concession stand, and General store. The atmosphere is family friendly and 0 –3 year olds get in free. Ages 4 – 12 are $8 and 13 and over pay $15. You will never believe this is all right here in Kyle! I hope to see you soon at Texas Old Town!
